I recently had the awesome opportunity of reviewing an extra special little book called “What I Know” ~ Uncommon Wisdom and Universal Truths from 10 year olds and 100 year olds, written by Roger Emerson Fishman. This 96 page book is full of stories and wonderful quotes by 10 year olds and 100 year olds. I love how you can find profound inspiration and insight through the eyes of both the young and old alike.
As many of you know, I have had to endure 3 long weeks of bed rest during the end of my recent pregnancy. It was very trying indeed. But I was able to take the time and really enjoy this book review when I may have otherwise rushed through it.
“What I Know” was really easy to read. It has lots of great black and white photographs and bold quotes following the inspiring stories. Here are a few examples of some of my favorite quotes (by 10 yr olds):
“Certain things have to be taught by your parents. Your just not that smart on your own”
“If you are a person who has a lot of perseverance towards everything, you will soar in life. Before you know it, you will be a doctor, a lawyer, or maybe even the president of the United States.”
“Make sure you really want to have kids. They can be really annoying at times, and never have more than five kids because that = “drama” “
These are just a few of the great quotes included in this book. You will also love the stories written in first person by a handful of men and woman from all walks of life who have lived to the ripe old age of 100 (amazing!). 🙂 They share about life, love, triumph and failure. What better way to gain wisdom than from those who have lived it themselves.

Having two sons and a 91 year old dad is what made me teary-eyed watching the video!
I like when the author says that there are the gifts of the 10 year olds and the treasure of the
100 year old people. Also, thinking of myself as a dot on a line ~ life is behind me and ahead of me. Many thanks, Cindi

I like how the author’s grandfather inspired him so much that he traveled to so many places just to get both sides of the spectrum and pass what he learned onto others.

I love that he got the inspiration from his Grandpa. My Grandpa is also my hero and one of the things he always said was, “Keep your chin up”.

It really touches me that a 10 year old can say “It’s not about whether someone will be there for you…. it’s about whether you will be there for someone else. It shows true compassion and that makes me happy. 🙂
I think it’s awesome that his son inspired him to write the book! What drive! I also think it’s inspirational that he traveled the country to get his stories & quotes!

What I like about the video is that one man actually took the time to listen to people, in this busy world. I’m not so sure that most wisdom is at the opposite ends of the age spectrum, but some certainly is.
I loved Emma P’s comment about the dot & just keep moving down the line. What an awsome thing to keep in mind when we start dwelling on yesterday.
I also loved the picture of the 100 yr old twin women. I’m a twin and would love still be love and laughing with my sisr at that age.
P.S. I’m a follower on Twitter!
I like how his granfather inspired him and how he understands what he meant by wisdom is ll around us. Both my parents and all my grandparents are gone so hearing how he was inspired touched me!
