Those notorious ‘April Showers’ are fast approaching – although the fact of the matter is that we can expect rain pretty much every month of the year in the UK! Make sure your kids are wet weather ready with waterproofs and wellies to wear when it rains (and try saying that ten times fast!).
With the right clothing and kit, wet weather can be great fun. Embrace those puddles (perfect for jumping in!) and don’t let the drizzle stop you from getting out and about with your little ones. After all, if you did, you’d get cabin fever pretty quickly! Just make sure that the kids stay dry, warm and comfortable with the following rainy day essentials:
Wellies
The number one rainy day essential is a great pair of wellies. Keep little feet dry with a pair of sturdy, comfy wellies that are ideal for playing out in the puddles. You’ll find a selection of wellies to choose from at George, including fun character styles such as the cute yellow JCB character boots – perfect for little digger fans! For older kids, keep it simple in classic black, navy or khaki.
Thick welly socks or thermal socks are a must for keeping feet warm and comfy when it’s pouring out. Make sure that you stock up the sock drawer with snugly pairs for toasty toes.
Umbrella
Kids will love holding their own umbrella, especially if featuring their favourite character from book, TV or film. Let them choose their own for added fun factor.
Raincoat
There are many different types of raincoats available. Anoraks are a popular choice for keeping kids completely shower-proof, as are ‘pac a macs’ which are super handy for popping in a bag or rucksack.
Some thicker coats will also have the added benefit of being shower resistant. Check the details when choosing your child’s coat, to be sure that it will withstand those inevitable spring showers.
Thermals
On rainy, grey days, even in spring, the weather can bite – and as adults we know that there’s nothing worse than being cold and wet. Help keep out the chill with thermal vests and t.shirts, to keep little ones warm, comfortable and healthy when out and about in less than cheerful spring weather.
Gloves
While a good raincoat will keep the body dry, hands can quickly be soaked in the rain. Gloves don’t have to be a winter only staple. Ski-style gloves and mittens can be great for keeping little hands dry.
Wet Weather Onesie
The all-in-ones fad continues to run and run, so what could be better that a waterproof onesie that will keep kids dry and stylish? You can find cute kids all in ones online and on the high street, in a variety of colours and designs, to keep the rain off from top to toe!
Don’t let spring showers keep your kids indoors. There’s great fun to be had this spring, even in the rain, if you dress them for the wet weather. Just don’t forget your own waterproofs and wellies, as no one likes a soggy mum and dad!
