Blessed Are Those…

August 19, 2009 by Painter Mommy 5 Comments

Several months ago, we had one of the older mothers in our church speak for our Mommy & Me group. She really encouraged us and spoke life over us. I think it is so important for those of us younger moms to take the opportunity to seek counsel and advice from moms who are older and more experienced. They have so much wisdom to bestow.

Anyway, the mom who spoke shared on Matthew 5. It is the chapter with all the scriptures that start with “Blessed are they” and “Blessed are those”.   Some people call them the “B Attitudes”.  Well, she handed all of the mothers a print out with those scriptures but they had been re-written just for a parent. I thought it was so neat and it really touched my heart.  I wanted to take this opportunity to share it with you so you would be blessed to.  🙂

  • Blessed is the parent who engages not in the comparison of his child with others, for precious unto each is the rhythm of his own growth.
  • Blessed are the fathers and mothers who have learned laughter, for it is the music of the child’s world.
  • Blessed and wise are those parents who understand the goodness of time, for they make it not a sword that kills growth but a shield to protect.
  • Blessed and mature are they who without anger can say “no”, for comforting to the child is the security of firm decisions.
  • Blessed is the gift of consistency, for it is heart’s-ease in childhood.
  • Blessed are they who accept the awkwardness of growth, for they are aware of the choice between marred furnishings and damaged personalities.
  • Blessed are the teachable, for knowledge brings understanding, and understanding brings love.
  • Blessed are the men and women who in the midst of the unpromising mundane, give love, for they bestow the greatest of all gifts to each other and to their children.

My favorite one is the one about consistency.  I really work on instilling this in our daily lives.  My husband I also make sure we are being consistent in how we parent and discipline together and when not together.  We want our children to know that we are both on the same page and that they cannot get one over on one parent or the other.

So, which one is your favorite?  I always love to hear your comments!  🙂
