    My tips:

*We only clean once a week. Every Sunday. We spend 2-4 hours cleaning. Kitchen, bathrooms, vacuuming, etc.

*Teens must pick up their stuff every night and take it to their rooms.

*Toddlers have a basket at the foot of the stairs that I fill up with toys, blankets, etc. When I take them up for bath time I take the basket up with me. It helps keep it all under control

*Teens have one week of dishes (Sunday-Thursday). I have three teens, so when they are done with their week, they don’t have to do dishes for another two weeks. They do dishes every night and on Sunday and Thursdays ALL dishes need to be done. Pots, pans.. ALL of it. The other nights they just need to do one load. They are all free of chores on Fridays and Saturdays.

I LOVE Sundays though… the house is perfect once a week and that keeps me sane. With 9 people living in one household it can get messy if we don’t keep atop it.

Great post! Since I’ve been pregnant, I have not felt like cleaning at all.. My house got totally out of control and I finally decided to clean the whole house and it almost killed me. I decided to make a chore chart for the week. Do I stick to it? Not really, but it least I am attempting a plan. I am trying to get some organization in pace before the little one gets here. I think it is a great idea to get the kids in the routine of picking up before bed.

These are great tips for staying on top of it. I love a clean house, the way it feels, the way I feel in a clean house. Staying on top of the clutter is our biggest problem, specifically papers. I think thats why I’m such a huge fan of email and web bill pay. I hate all the junk that comes in the mail…just more crap to throw away.

When the house needs a good deep clean, like dusting, window washing and getting rid of stuff we don’t use any longer, then I have what I like to call a mad-dash house cleaning session. We also do this when the house gets out of hand because of schedules. Each person takes a specific chore and does it throughout the whole house or sometimes we take we each take a room. Then the whole house is clean in under an hour. Of course I have teens and young adults, so I don’t have to deal with toys and such, unless the grandkids are over :)
