I went to the Doctor this past Friday and they asked me if I wanted to get the flu shot.? I was hesitant because I had my mom visiting for the weekend and I really didn’t want to get the flu.? I have heard on several occasions of people coming down with a mild case of the flu from the shot.? After all, they are injecting little bit of the flu into you right?
The Doctor assured me that I would be fine and that the only thing that? might happen would be for my arm to get a little sore.
Friday I was fine.? But on Saturday I started feeling achy.? Sunday it got worse, and now Monday – I really have the flu!? What the heck?? Now my head is pounding and my whole body aches from head to toe.? I was so looking forward to today because my 3 & 4 yr olds are in preschool for a full day.?? I had planned on getting lots of work done today, but that probably won’t happen, because I am having a hard time just typing this post from my bed.
I am interested to know what your thoughts are about the flu shot.? Please leave me a comment and fill out the poll below.? You can pick more than one answer.

I am sure at this point you won’t believe me because you do not feel good. But the flu injection is NOT a live virus. They are NOT giving you any of the flu itself even in the smallest doses. The flu mist is a live virus. I am sure if you went and had a nasal swab you would find out that you did not have the actual flu virus. It is not to say that you did not pick up a virus…you may have gotten it in the Dr. office even..but not from the flu shot. But it actually takes the flu shot a couple of weeks to give you full immunization against the flu. Years ago the flu shot was a live virus…but it hasn’t been for years.
(I am a peds nurse…I give out this info to parents all the time.)
I am sorry you feel so yucky!!
I’ve never had a problem personally – but my mother has gotten the flu from the flu shot.
I don’t mind the flu shot. I’ve usually get about a 24 hour bug from it but then I don’t get sick for like ever after I get it! It’ s nice for not getting sick but gives you no excuse with you actually want to call into work sick! lol
This is the first year, I haven’t gotten it. I usually get the shot every year and only have a couple of colds. So we shall see.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
I am a big fan and advocate of the flu shot. My husband got the flu so bad one year. He never misses getting the flu shot since. I know that it doesn’t protect against all strains, but any protection I can get, I will take.
Well, in the years past (before children) I got the flu shot on a regular basis. I just did it because they told me to do it. My grandma stopped taking the shot because she would get sick after getting it. Then, once my daughter was born (6 years ago), my husband at the time got the flu shot. I think we all did, actually. Then he came down with Guillain Barre Syndrome-A disease that paralyzes the body. He almost died. And, that was the first time he had ever gotten the shot. While researching it online, I found out that sometimes it can be associated with the flu shot! Needless to say, I don’t get the flu shot anymore, and neither does my ex-husband!
I’ve gotten the flu shot every year since my 20’s. I’m in my 40’s now. I’ve never had any symptoms of the flu. Both of my kids have been getting it for the past 3 or 4 years. They are 14 and 18. You should talk to your doctor and tell them what happened. Do you think you were coming down with something at the time they gave you the shot?
I hope you feel better!

I don’t get the flu shot because I don’t want to get the flu. I have heard of people getting a mild case of it, so I figure if I’m going to get it, I’d rather get it naturally and let my body fight it off naturally. I know this is what the flu shot does, helps your body build anti bodies against it, but I prefer the natural way instead of injecting it into me.
