Our Big Apple Circus Experience / Review

October 25, 2010 by Painter Mommy 4 Comments

I was a bit leary when I first got the email from Monique of American Pop Social Media Marketing about the offer of free tickets for me and my family for the Big Apple Circus at Lincoln Center.   I have had many offers and opportunities because of being a mom blogger, but never for anything this big before.   I was probably making Monique crazy with all the back and forth and wanting to confirm things, etc.  I just did not want to get all the way down to the city and be turned away leaving 4 devastated little children. Well, everything was confirmed and we were set to go.  YAY!

Our trip to the city was easy.  We are only about 90 minutes away and since there was no traffic, we actually got there much faster.  There is parking right under the circus so that was very convenient.  It cost us $33.  The circus started at 4:30pm and we got there around 2:30pm, ao I went and picked up our tickets and then we got to walk around a little bit in the area which was nice.  There is a really nice courtyard outside the circus entrance that connects a lot of the buildings and theaters that are a part of Lincoln Center.

Here we are walking around.

And here I am with my older 2 at the beautiful fountain in the Lincoln Center courtyard.

Here we are getting ready to walk inside.

Growing up in New Jersey and now living in upstate New York, I have always wanted to go to the Big Apple Circus.  But now that we are a family of 6, it is harder for us to be able to get out and enjoy things like this just because of the expense.  I actually did not realize that The Big Apple Circus has several different ticket price options ranging from $25 to $175.  Yes, that is a huge price difference, but honestly the tent is not all that large and you can enjoy the circus from pretty much any seat.

We were in the section with the red X in the picture below – definitely great seats, but if you had a choice of what seats to go with, I would suggest any seats in the green circle in the picture below.  Most of the performances are facing that direction and with many of the choreographed dances and such, it would be nice to see them head on so that you can get the full affect.  They do move around the ring so that all can see, but they are facing more towards the center section.  Really not a big deal, but I thought I would share just in case.

Along with our free tickets we also received free meal vouchers that provided a hotdog, drink, and popcorn or cotton candy.  What a blessing that was!  We decided to go into the circus a little early and eat before we went into the actual circus tent.  With 4 little ones, you gotta do what is easiest if ya know what I mean.  🙂

Well, there was a nice large entry area where the food was being sold.  There were tables and chairs and benches.   We grabbed our food and a table and it worked out perfect.  Here is a quick shot of everyone eating.

After we finished eating, we checked the stroller (yes they have a stroller check – NICE!)  We then went in to get our seats and man was I grateful that we ate ahead of time.  The seats are a bit tight, just enough leg room, but not quite enough to deal with 4 active children and food.  We did bring our leftover drinks and popcorn in, but you really have to be careful because they spill easily.  That is one thing I noticed a lot even with the people seated around us.  EVERYONE seemed like they were spilling their drinks.  And if you have a bag that you are keeping on the floor at your feet – you may consider keeping it on your lap.  I would suggest being very careful and not bringing in too much food especially if you are juggling small children.

The kids were sooooo excited about the cotton candy.  I was not so much in the beginning until the kids had just a few bites of theirs and I wound up eating the rest.  Way too sweet, but definitely love the texture!  Here are my sweeties eating cotton candy at the circus for the first time.

When the circus started the kids were mesmerized.  Here is a picture of the ring from our seats.  I took this BEFORE they had said there was no flash photography or video aloud.  The funny thing though, is that no one really listened to this.  Oh well…

The performances were great!  There were unicylcists, twirlers, contortionists, a juggler, 12 beautiful miniature white horses, and of course my kid’s favorite was the funny guy with the hat who carried around the suitcase of goodies.  My kids were laughing hysterically that even the people in front of us turned around and laughed just because they were laughing so hard.

During the intermission we had asked someone to take a picture of us.  I did a little Photoshop magic on it to fade out the people in the background.  Came out nice right?

So, all in all, we had an AWESOME Big Apple Circus experience.  I definitely recommend that you go, no matter how old you are.  We saw people of all ages, even one very elderly couple who was behind us.  It really was the perfect day.  The kids were very entertained.  Even our 2 yr old made it through the entire 2 hour performance without any terrible breakdowns.

‘Heart on Your Sleeve Design’ Necklace Review

October 17, 2010 by Painter Mommy Leave a Comment

As many of you have seen lately, I am not doing many reviews and giveaways anymore.  I have just been way too busy.  I still get pitched all the time from PR reps, but I just have not had the time to devote to writing posts about products and promoting giveaways, for products that I am really not passionate about.  For a time I had thought that I was going to do the “professional” blogging thing,  but my life has taken a turn and I am now focusing more on my graphic design business and using my blog as a means to post about my life and the things I am actually passionate about.

Well, I recently got an email from a very nice woman named Dana who runs a small jewelry company called Heart on Your Sleeve Design.  She asked if I would be interested in doing a review or giveaway.  I checked out her site and I was instantly drawn to one of her spirit inspired necklaces called “Joy”.  I wrote her and shared that I had been through a very rough year (as many of you know already) and that God had taught me about having JOY in the midst of my difficulties.  I mentioned that I loved the “Joy” necklace with the butterfly.  She wrote back to me with some comments on her experiences over the past year as well.  Seems like everyone has been going through a hard time.  Dana then told me that she would be putting the necklace in the mail.  I was thrilled!  There is nothing like reviewing a product that actually means something.  I have had my share of child related products, but doing a review on something JUST FOR ME is really special.

Well, I got the necklace in the mail the other day and was really impressed.  I don’t know about you guys, but the packaging of a product really makes a huge impression for me.  This is what the necklace looked like coming out of the box, cute right?

I wore it today, for the first time, going to church.  The quality is really great.  Everything is sterling silver.  My 10 month old even grabbed it pretty hard and it held up really well.

I had my hubby take a few of pictures of me wearing my new necklace.  I think it was the perfect match for my red top.

Heart on Your Sleeve Jewelry was inspired by Kim Newton’s desire to “wear her heart on her sleeve”.  Unable to find “stylish” Christian jewelry, she began designing her own.  Dana is Kim’s good friend and they both joined together as the business started to grow.

They not only offer necklaces, but also bracelets, earrings, and t-shirts.  The prices are really reasonable too.  And the fact that there is a meaning and scripture that inspires each piece is definitely something special.

They even have collections for special occasions and holidays!

Christmas Collection

Fan Fare Collection

Vacation Collection

And the really cool part, is that YOU my readers are being offered a special offer for FREE SHIPPING on your next order from Heart on Your Sleeve Design.  All you have to do is use the code: “fallship”.  I hope you guys will take advantage of this special offer and maybe get something special for yourself or a a gift for your mom, sister, or even a friend.

Thanks so much Dana and Kim for the opportunity to review your jewelry.  Keep up the great work.  May God bless you and your business!

Website Review – www.LetsSayThanks.com

I was sent an email recently about this awesome program called “Lets Say Thanks” which is a program that gives anyone the opportunity to send a free printed post card to US Military personnel stationed overseas showing our support and appreciation for their service to our country.

Check out this video to find out more about how the program got started.

So, as you can see the well known printing company, Zerox, has a very important role in both getting this program started as well as actually printing and sending the cards that people create on the website.

Each card was hand drawn by a child.  The program chose designs from hundreds that were submitted from all around the country.  The fun part is that you can actually choose your design and then pick a message and hit submit.   From there your card will be printed and sent to one of the soldiers who are fighting for us somewhere overseas.

This is so quick and easy to do.  I hope that you will take 5 minutes and pick a card to show your appreciation today!

REVIEW – Melaleuca’s Green Cleaning Products & More

September 15, 2009 by Painter Mommy 20 Comments

Melaleuca is a wellness company that operates just like Costco where they have a one time lifetime membership fee of $29.00 to become a preferred customer.   Once you become a preferred customer all you have to do is commit to buying 35 product points a month which winds up being between $40-$60.  This then allows you to purchase products at their best discounted rates.

Picture1

The membership is a money back guarantee up to 3 months after joining and can be terminated anytime. The products ALWAYS have a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied for any reason. So you have nothing to lose for trying… and the products are really Excellent.

They have over 350 of the world’s leading wellness products for the home and family. These products include:

  • Green Household Cleaners
  • Laundry Soap
  • Makeup
  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo
  • Soaps & Lotions
  • Pain Reliever Tablets
  • Vitamins
  • Candles
  • …and so much more!!

My review today is on the Household Cleaning Products that are all non toxic and eco friendly with no harmful chemicals. The neat thing about these products is that they are concentrated so you actually save money every month because you don’t use as much product as you would with regular store brands.

Melaleuca’s Ecosense Cleaning Products are made up of naturally derived ingredients with no chlorine bleach, ammonia, or formaldehyde.  Their products are more effective, safer, better for the environment AND they save you money!  And who doesn’t want there home to be safer and toxic free?

Check out this video:

I was able to try 4 different cleaning products: No work Daily Shower Cleaner, Touch & Tender All Purpose Cleaner, Mela Magic Heavy Duty Cleaner, and the Rustic Touch Furniture Polish.

And remember that they come concentrated, so you are actually getting more product to work with.  So that means less going to the store and less money!  Your best bet is to purchase a package like the one below where you get both the concentrated cleaners and the bottles to go with them.  The cost on this with the membership discount is $24.41.  Without the membership the cost is $35.00.  And for this group of cleaners, you are allotted 11 points to go towards your 35 monthly points needed.

Discovering Melaleuca is like finding a new store with better products at a better value. You’re not adding to your monthly shopping budget, just taking a portion of what you already spend at the grocery store and spending it more wisely.

Melaleuca is also a profit sharing company.  You can sign up to sell the products and get some great benefits.  The company does $850,000,000 a year with a 95% customer retention.  If you are interested, please leave me a comment and I will put you in touch with my good friend Clare who is a Melaleuca representative.  She can either sign you up as just a purchasing member or talk to you about the benefits of getting involved in the actual business aspect.

Check out this great video on how Melaleuca can really help the Stay at Home Mom.

If you are interested, please let me know!  Leave me a comment with your email address and my friend Clare will send you a quick introductory email.  You will not regret it!

Product Review – Stonyfield YoBaby Yogart

June 20, 2009 by Painter Mommy 3 Comments

32oz-WM-PlainI was recently contacted by a representative from Stonyfield Yogart.  They asked me if I would like to do a review of their organic baby yogart.  I have always been a fan of Stonyfield yogart because of my mom.  She got me hooked on the original with the yummy cream on top.  I enjoy eating it with fruit mixed in.  It is a great option for breakfast or even a snack.

The reason I first tried it was because I was having issues with yeast infections and my doctor told me to eat yogart that has active cultures in it called Probiotics. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that live in our digestive tract. The yogart contains just enough to help replenish what is lost due to many different factors such as antibiotics, poor nutrition, stress (that’s me – LOL), pollution, and aging.  Each serving of Stonyfield yogart contains five billion natural probiotic cultures.

I was given several great coupons as well as 2 FREE coupons for the Stonyfield YoBaby Yogart which is what I will be reviewing in this post.  Each pack comes with 6 – 4 oz. containers (perfect size for baby).  They have several flavor options: Original, Apple, Banana, Blueberry, Peach, Pear, and Vanilla.

I gave the yogart to my children for breakfast one morning and they loved it.  My daughter (3) asked for a second one.  Here is a picture of them enjoying their new yogart.

I have to admit that I also tried one and loved it too.  I love the fact that it is not overly sweet. So many of the children’s yogart out on the market today is FULL of sugar and WAY too sweet.

Here is a bit of information taken from the Stonyfield website:

The funny thing is, I didn’t realize until researching what I was going to write for this post that the Yobaby yogart can actually be given to a baby as early as 6 months. Wow!  I have an 8 month old and wasn’t sure if it was ok to give him – and now I know!

So, if you are thinking about introducing a dairy into your baby’s diet, definitely start with Stonyfield YoBaby Yogart!
