Five Ideas For Moms To Set Up A Game Room

September 26, 2018 by Painter Mommy Leave a Comment

Moms who are trying to set up a game room will find that they need to get a lot of different things to use in the room.  You need to set up a game room that will be easy to use, and it has to have all the different things that will make you feel so much better about setting up game night.  You need to look into all the things that are listed because some of them will completely change how you entertain your family.

  1. Get A Pool Table

You can buy a pool table to put in the room, and you need to find a pool cue or two to use in the room.  You can use some information when finding the right pool cues, and people who are looking to buy a pool cue should read up on these items.  You might need smaller ones for the kids, and you can get the bridge and rack that will help you take care of the cues.

  1. Get Board Games

You need to have an assortment of board games that will look amazing when you have people come over.  You want all the people who come over for game night to have a good time, and they need to have a lot of games to choose from.  People who do not want to get bored should keep buying board games so that you have a large assortment for everyone to use.  The people who are playing board games can pick up different editions, and you will never get bored.

  1. Add A Fridge

You should add a fridge to the room so that you can have refreshments in the room, and you will begin to enjoy this space more because you can always have something to eat or drink.  You need to be certain that you have found the fridge that will be easy to use, and you could get a mini fridge or a large fridge.  You could even get a freezer for your beer if you want something down there for the adults on late nights.

  1. Add Game Tables

You could add game tables, and this will give you a chance to play normal card games with your kids.  These games tables are easy to set up, and they can be folded or stored.

  1. Add A TV

You need to have a TV in the room so that you can keep everyone entertained if all your games are over.  You could also play games that you will watch on the TV.  It all depends on what you want, and you will find that you could easily get everyone interested in game night when they are watching something.

You could have a game room in your home that is very easy to use, and you could put all the things in the house that will make your game room fun to use.  You can buy a lot of things, and you will start to build a room that everyone enjoys.

One of My Favorite Household Items

November 10, 2009 by Painter Mommy 1 Comment

137537_300This is called a DUST BUSTER or hand held vacuum.  And man is it great!  My mom always had one when I was growing up and it wasn’t until I started having kids of my own that I really saw the importance of owning one myself.

With 3 small children in our home, we are constantly needing to clean up.  It wound up getting frustrating to have to pull out the big vacuum several times a day.  It is just plain easier to grab the dust buster and spot clean the areas that need it and then pop it back on its charger.

I did a lot of research first to find the best hand held vac out there at a decent price.  I decided to purchase the Black & Decker CHV1500 15.6V Hepa Dust Buster because (at the time) it had the highest voltage motor.  This was about 2 years ago, so I am pretty sure that they have come up with an even better one since then.

We love our dust buster so much, we even got the kids an identical toy one so they can join in the fun as well.  We use our hand held vacuum in every room of the house, but the kitchen and living room is where it gets the most use.  It works great after dinner for all those crumbs that fall from the table.  But my favorite use for it as when the kids have their evening snack and they ALWAYS seem to spill some on the floor (right after I get done with the big vacuum of course).  I am able to clean up in no time.

So, if you are a mom and you DON’T have one of these yet, then be sure to ask for it for Christmas!  It is one of the best gifts I have ever gotten for myself.  I am all about making life just a little bit easier.

How about you?  What is your favorite household item?

What To Do With a Kid Who Fights Doing Homework

My oldest son is 5 years old and just started kindergarten this year.  He is now coming home with a small amount of homework to do, but he fights me every step of the way.  It has been very frustrating.  He cries.  He acts like he doesn’t know what to do.  And even after I walk him through it, he still sits there whining.

So, as a mom, I am thinking,“Oh my goodness, if this is starting ALREADY… then what will it be like when he gets older???”  HELP!” LOL

I have tried several different strategies over these past few weeks:

1.  Getting it over with as soon as he gets home. He doesn’t respond well to this, because he is pretty worn out from being at school all day.

2.  Doing it after dinner. I have tried to do his homework after dinner is all done and everything has been cleaned up.  I even offer a reward.  But to be honest with you, he doesn’t eat very well and I wind up trying to reward him for eating too, so once that is over – he could care less about being rewarded for homework.  And after eating, he just wants to play with his sister.

3.  In the morning before school. This actually works the best.  He is much more willing to do the work in the morning, but it is hard for me because of everything else that goes on in the morning.  I have a really hard time stopping what I am doing to sit down with him and do homework.

So, you can see my dilemma.  My husband and I have both gotten frustrated.  We have even punished him, but he will just sit in his room and cry and nothing really gets resolved.  He just gets more tired in the end and we wind up giving up.

I really want to be consistent.  I want to have a plan that will work for all of us without having to put up with a huge fight every afternoon and evening.  I mean should I just get over the morning thing and let him do his homework then?  What would you do?  What strategies have worked for you, especially when they are so young.

And of course, you know I had to find a funny homework cartoon.  I thought this one was great.  🙂

Back to School – How to Make Mornings a Little Easier

September 17, 2009 by Painter Mommy 1 Comment

school

How are all of you moms doing with the new back to school schedule?  I actually thought that I was going to dread having to wake up earlier each morning and come up with a whole new routine.  But everything has been running very smoothly.  I do a lot of my preparing and planning the night before, so that has been a huge help.  And man and I excited to have the whole day – 9:00am to 3:00pm, just me and the baby!  I have been able to focus more on my client work and get a lot more done.

Check out my vlog (video blog) on how I feel about back to school and some of the things I have been doing to help make our mornings a little bit easier.

How do you feel about the new back to school schedule?  Is it easier for you?   Harder?  What are some of the things that you do to make your mornings easier?

Our Latest Garbage Picking Find (It’s a Good One!)

Every Sunday there is a special place that we pass on our way home from church that has a clothes bin where you drop off used clothes for the needy.  Well, on the bin it says “Clothes and Shoes ONLY” and yet people still leave just about anything and everything next to the bin.  I actually don’t mind this very much because we have been stopping by there for many years picking up really cool stuff – mostly toys for the kids.

I know what you might be thinking… “Yuk, you give dirty old toys to your kids?”  Well, yes and no.  LOL  I do clean them off first and then let them play with them and it really doesn’t bother me at all.  We have found the following items at this bin over the past 3 years and most everything in really great condition.

  • High Chair
  • Child Size Basketball Hoop
  • Sliding Board
  • Big Toy Truck with Legos
  • Outdoor Dump Truck
  • Shelf
  • Bikes
  • Random Toys and MUCH MORE

I feel like this is a place where God leaves things just for us.  And because you are not supposed to leave anything other than clothes there – this stuff is up for grabs.

Our most recent find (this past Sunday) was a blow up contraption that is filled with plastic balls.  My kids absolutely love it, even the baby.

I would never buy something like this otherwise.  We really don’t have the money to spend on toys at this point in our lives – we reserve that for special occasions – Christmas & Birthdays.  So, it is a treat to find something new that was thrown away but yet still perfectly useful.  I can’t resist those precious smiles on my kid’s faces when we present them with something new.  Having them occupied is just priceless.  I don’t care where it comes from.  🙂

How about you?  Have you found anything good in the garbage?  Or are you a CLOSET garbage picker.  LOL  Anyway, whatever you are… I want to hear about what it is you have found!  Do tell!  Do tell!
