Fun stuff in the Everyday Life of a Busy Mom & Entrepreneur

My Daughter Got a Hold of the Scissors

January 16, 2009 by Painter Mommy 16 Comments

scissors

I think this is every mama’s worst nightmare.? I have not cut my daughter’s hair in over a year.? It grew pretty long (shoulder length).? I was busy busy on the computer and the kids had gotten pretty quiet after being in the bathroom to wash marker off of their hands.

All of a sudden, I hear from my son “Mommy, Leeah is using scissors”.? I SHOT up from my desk and ran to the bathroom to see my daughter with scissors in her hand and a good portion of her hair chopped off.?? I was SCREAMING!!

The funny part is that she cut her hair and cleaned up after herself while doing it.? Here is what the garbage looked like when I walked in.

p1020870

And this is my darling daughter crying after I screamed at her.? Her hair is so dark and thick that you really can’t see much of the destruction, but she cut huge chunks out of the sides of her hair.

p1020861

It took me about an hour of cutting (and keep in mind, I am not a hairdresser by any means).? I can use a buzzer to cut my sons hair, but not much else.? My daughter actually fell asleep sitting up because it took me so long.? LOL? And moms, yes, my 3 yr old still uses a bobo on occasion.? It was the only thing that would calm her down, and I was pretty desperate.

p1020865

Here she is about to get into the tub.

So what do you think??? Did I do ok??

PRODUCT REVIEW – Belly Blessings Bracelet

January 13, 2009 by Painter Mommy 7 Comments

I would like to say thankyou to Leslie @LaMamaNaturale of Recycle Your Day for hosting a great giveaway recently (which I was so blessed to win!)? Be sure to check her site out when you get a chance!

head_bg

The giveaway rules asked for us to go to the sponsor’s website and pick out our favorite item.? The site had some really great stuff, but my absolute favorite thing was the Baby Blessed Bracelet.

And guess what!? I got it!!!

The artist is a doula and a mother of three.? She has a special understanding and love for pregnancy, birth, and babies.? Her ETSY store Bellyblessings Designs is the result of over 10 years of passion for pregnancy combined with a love of making jewelry.

Here is the awesome bracelet I won!

(don’t mind my tatoo – I had some crazy teenage years before settling down as a wife and mom. LOL)

p1020843

This picture definitely doesn’t do it justice.? I just wanted you to see me actually wearing the bracelet.? Here is what it REALLY looks like.

il_430xn45649549

Isn’t it just gorgeous??

According to the artist, this bracelet was designed for the expectant mother.? It is made with light rose quartz rounds for girls, and blue lace agate ovals for boys.? It represents your unborn baby and all of their potential.? I love that!? The heart-shaped clasp, spacer beads and findings are all sterling silver.?? Those details are what got me, especially the tiny heart clasp – perfect!

I just had a baby, so it is a blessing to have and to wear.? I will cherish it for many years to come.?? By the way, the artist was so kind to throw in a matching pair of earings as well – wasn’t that nice?

So you guys just HAVE to check out her store!? She has lots of great stuff and the prices are very reasonable.

Stomach Flu – Yuk!!

January 11, 2009 by Painter Mommy 3 Comments

Hello 2009

It all started this past Tuesday when my daughter started throwing up.? She is 3 years old and not at the point yet where she can hold it back till she gets to the bathroom.? I washed her sheets several times over the course of the week due to her throwing up in bed.? It was HORRIBLE!

I thought it was over after a few days and actually thought it may have been caused by her being lactose intolerant.?? She had been drinking her brother’s regular milk the day before she got sick.? Since my mom had been planning on visiting this weekend, I told her to go ahead and come because my daughter seemed much better.? My mom drove up from NJ on Thursday to spend a long weekend and celebrate a late Christmas since we didn’t get to see her over the holidays.? All was great until Friday afternoon, when I got a call from my 4 yr old son’s preschool that he had just thrown up all over the floor in his class.

Uh oh….. My mom was kind of upset, because the last thing she wanted was to get sick.?? My husband picked my son up from school who threw up all over his car on the way home.? And once my son came home, I started to feel queezy myself.? I let it go because I thought maybe I was just THINKING I was sick, but not really sick.? That happens to me a lot, especially after cleaning up throw up and feeling like gagging.

sad-unhappy-sick-green-face

Well, sure enough, an hour later I was in the bathroom with diarrhea and then an hour after that I was throwing up.? My mom decided to pack up and leave that night hoping that she wouldn’t get sick herself.? I was praying she would be OK.

So, for the entire night on Friday, I was back and forth from bed to bathroom until I had nothing left.? It was the sickest I had been in a LONG time.

Saturday morning, the phone rang, and it was my mom.? She sounded horrible and said that she was sick too.

Well, it has surely been a rough weekend for me and my family.? Thank God my husband has not gotten it.? He was able to care for the kids and the baby while I was sick in bed.? I even got a full night’s sleep last night (almost 12 hours straight).? I have not slept that much in one time period for quite a while.? I really needed that rest and the downtime.

I am looking forward to a new week.? I have sooooo much catching up to do.? But stay tuned, because I am offering another great blog graphic giveaway!? For those of you in need of a 125×125 ad button…I think that is what I am offering next!!

PRODUCT REVIEW – Treasure Chest Craft by Melissa & Doug

January 6, 2009 by Painter Mommy 3 Comments

I won this cool craft, among other great things, in a Giveaway from Sweet Girl Boutique.?? This is a great idea for the kids to do on a rainy day.

It includes a small wooden treasure chest, an acrylic primary colored paint set, a paint brush, two tubes of glitter paint, and stickers that add the finishing touch.

3095treaschestsm

Here are my babies painting their treasure chests.? They were so into it, I couldn’t even get them to look up at the camera.? They painted those things until all the colors blended together and the paint started to look like mud.? LOL

p1020796

And here is the final outcome!? Boy were they proud!

p1020827

I definitely recommend this product.? It was fun for both me and my children.? I was happy, because it actually kept them occupied for longer than 5 minutes.? I think they were painting for a good 20 minutes straight!? This definitely ranks up there with playdo!

Oh, and you can purchase your own Mellisa & Doug craft set on Sweet Girl Boutique’s website for under $5.00.? How can you beat that?? They even have other paint sets – race car, piggy bank, heart box, and a picture frame.? Kids love to paint, so what better gift can you give them with everything all ready to go.

How to Keep Winter Gloves Organized

January 1, 2009 by Painter Mommy 14 Comments

I cannot take credit for this awesome Organizational Tip.? My mom was the one who shared this with me a couple years ago.? She is my mentor and also an organizational genius!

I have always dreaded Winter with small children.? It is so difficult having to bundle them up with coats, hats, scarves, and mittens.? And then once you get to your destination the kids take them off and they get thrown somewhere and many times lost – never to be found again (especially the gloves). I kinda wish they made them on strings like how they do for babies.

Anyway, once we get home after an outing, the hats, gloves and scarves get thrown all over the place.?? I used to have a big basket that I would put everything in.? But eventually when it was time to go out again, there would always be a glove missing.? I would go crazy trying to find it and then finally give up and let the kids go out without any gloves at all.? (I know…bad mommy I am…)

So, when my mom shared this idea with me, I was thrilled!

Has anyone ever seen these plastic chains with clips on them that you can get from the Dollar Store?

Well this was my answer to keeping our winter gloves organized in their matching pairs!? Here is a picture of our gloves hanging in our entryway.? I have three separate chains hanging on hooks that are attached to a mirror I have hanging on my wall.

As you can see each pair of gloves has its own clip.? When we come in the house I get the gloves hung up right away so they are always neat and organized.

What do you think of this idea?? I love it!!
